Chevrolet and GMC have confirmed the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500, and the changes go well past a new grille. Both trucks share the same next-generation full-size platform, with each brand carrying its own personality. Silverado keeps its focus on capability and value across a wide trim spread, while Sierra leans further into premium materials and technology at the top of its range.
The headline mechanical news is a pair of new naturally aspirated Small Block V8s, offered in 5.7L and 6.6L displacements on both trucks. Chevrolet and GMC engineers built these engines around towing confidence and daily-driving refinement, with a new fuel injection system tuned for everything from commuting to trailering.
The enhanced 2.7L TurboMax carries over as a lighter-duty option, now paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission on both trucks. Each lineup also keeps a segment-exclusive 3.0L Duramax diesel, giving shoppers four total powertrain choices between the gas V8s, the TurboMax, and the diesel.
Silverado moves to a seven-trim structure: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, Z71, ZR2, and High Country. Z71 shifts from an optional package to a standalone trim for 2027, arriving with standard off-road suspension, skid plates, and hill descent control built in.
Sierra keeps a tighter six-trim range: Pro, Elevation, AT4, AT4X, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. Fewer steps means each Sierra trim covers more ground, with AT4X and Denali Ultimate doing the heavy lifting at the top of the range.
Every 2027 Silverado gets a 16.3-inch centre touchscreen and a 12.2-inch driver display as standard equipment, lineup-wide. On Sierra, that same 16.3-inch touchscreen and 12.2-inch cluster show up on Denali Ultimate, paired there with a 15-inch head-up display and a 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system.

If you would rather deal with fewer decisions and want the top trim to carry the most standard hardware, Sierra’s six-trim ladder works because Denali Ultimate comes with the 6.6L V8, the 15-inch head-up display, and Super Cruise with trailering capability included from the factory.
